Logitech outs a pair of keyboard cases, gets into the tablet accessories gamehttp://gizmoave.com/2011/05/24/logitech-outs-a-pair-of-keyboard-cases-gets-into-the-tablet-accessories-game/ http://gizmoave.com/2011/05/24/logitech-outs-a-pair-of-keyboard-cases-gets-into-the-tablet-accessories-game/#comments Wed, 25 May 2011 04:21:27 +0000 admin http://gizmoave.com/?p=3714 Technically, we suppose Logitech already made a play for the tablet accessories market when it launched a rebranded Zaggmate keyboard case earlier this year, but today the peripheral manufacturer’s getting serious about slates with the launch of two new portable products. Lacking a Smart Cover to keep your iPad 2 on edge? You could try the $70 Logitech Tablet Keyboard pictured above, which comes with a hardshell sleeve that doubles as a tablet stand and dedicated iOS or Android shortcuts. The keyboard itself is slick, roomy and somewhat plasticky, with a definite Notion Ink Adam vibe. There’s also a redesigned Zaggmate, now known as the $100 Logitech Keyboard Case, which comes with “a more intuitive keyboard layout and improved keystrokes for even more comfortable typing” — a claim we weren’t able to test — as well as a rebranded $100 Logitech Z515 Bluetooth speaker system, and a $50 Bluetooth mouse. Pricey? Definitely. Worthwhile? Decide for yourself later this month, when they’re scheduled to hit shelves.

Apple Upgrades iMacshttp://gizmoave.com/2011/05/24/apple-upgrades-imacs/ http://gizmoave.com/2011/05/24/apple-upgrades-imacs/#comments Tue, 24 May 2011 06:44:23 +0000 admin http://gizmoave.com/?p=3697 Apple announces an upgrade to its signature all-in-one iMac® with next generation quad-core processors, powerful new graphics, groundbreaking high-speed Thunderbolt I/O technology and a new FaceTime® HD camera. Starting at $1,199, the new iMac is up to 70 percent faster and new graphics deliver up to three times the performance of the previous generation. The new iMac features quad-core Intel Core i5 processors with an option for customers to choose Core i7 processors up to 3.4 GHz. These next generation processors feature an integrated memory controller for an amazingly responsive experience and a powerful new media engine for high-performance video encoding and decoding. With new AMD Radeon HD graphics processors, the new iMac has the most powerful graphics ever in an all-in-one desktop.

iMac is the first desktop computer on the market to include groundbreaking Thunderbolt I/O technology. The 21.5-inch iMac has a single Thunderbolt port while the 27-inch model features two ports for even greater expansion. Developed by Intel with collaboration from Apple, Thunderbolt enables expandability never before possible on an all-in-one computer. Featuring two bi-directional channels with transfer speeds up to an amazing 10Gbps each, Thunderbolt delivers PCI Express directly to external high performance peripherals such as RAID arrays, and can support FireWire® and USB consumer devices, and Gigabit Ethernet networks via adapters. Thunderbolt also supports DisplayPort for high resolution displays and works with existing adapters for HDMI, DVI and VGA displays. Freely available for implementation on systems, cables and devices, Thunderbolt technology is expected to be widely adopted as a new standard for high performance I/O.

iMac includes a built-in FaceTime HD camera and Apple’s innovative FaceTime software for crisp, widescreen video calling the whole family can enjoy. The new camera supports high definition video calls between all FaceTime HD-enabled Macs and standard resolution calls with iPad® 2, iPhone® 4, the current generation iPod touch® and other Intel-based Macs. The iMac continues to feature its signature aluminum and glass design, gorgeous IPS LED-backlit high resolution display, SD card slot and comes with Apple’s innovative Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad.

Continuing Apple’s commitment to the environment, Apple’s desktop line is a leader in green design. The iMac meets stringent Energy Star 5.2 requirements and achieves EPEAT Gold rating.** iMac features LED-backlit displays that are mercury-free and made with arsenic-free glass. iMac uses PVC-free components and cables, contains no brominated flame retardants, uses highly recyclable materials and features material-efficient system and packaging designs.

Every Mac comes with Mac OS® X Snow Leopard®, the world’s most advanced operating system, and iLife®, Apple’s innovative suite of applications for creating and sharing great photos, movies and music. Snow Leopard builds on more than a decade of innovation and includes the Mac App Store℠ for finding great new apps for your Mac. iLife ’11 features iPhoto® with stunning full screen views for browsing, editing and sharing photos; iMovie® with powerful easy-to-use tools to transform home videos into fun theatrical trailers; and GarageBand® with new ways to improve your playing and create great sounding songs.

So this is what an Imac would’ve looked like if it was released in Victorian era. If you intend to disconnect with today’s status quo in technology, then you should probably consider this iMac in a Victorian antique look. Coming from the house of “Old Time Computer,” which previously thought of restoring the technology-jaded world with its steampunkish storm, this Apple iMac in oak custom cover with oak keyboard accent in hand-painted faux marble finish base cover offers another special desktop setup. Wireless Touchpad Keyboardhttp://gizmoave.com/2010/03/05/wireless-touchpad-keyboard/ http://gizmoave.com/2010/03/05/wireless-touchpad-keyboard/#comments Fri, 05 Mar 2010 17:16:32 +0000 Salman Khan http://gizmoave.com/?p=3270 rii-mini-wireless-keyboard-1

Now I can type up an article while sitting in my bathroom with ease. From the House of Insane Ideas comes this feature packed peripheral for geeks on the go. The Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard has 69 LED-backlit keys, and what Brando claims is the “World’s First Touchpad”. Oh Brando. Your craziness is one of the few constants in my life. Anyway we’re not done yet! The keyboard also has teeny tiny left and right mouse buttons, media controls, d-pad style arrow keys, and a laser pointer. Whew!

The keypad measures a mere 6 x 2.3 x 0.5 in and weighs only 103 g. The keyboard itself isn’t wireless, but it comes with a complementary 2.4 Ghz wireless dongle. It also comes with a plain old USB to mini-USB cable, for when the built-in rechargeable lithium battery runs out of juice. You can get the Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard at Brando for $92 (USD). Perfect for work
and play, and it has the world’s first touchpad to boot! What’s not to like?
