Time to update a classic that updated a classic. Imagine this: two rival gangs, one named the Jets and one named the Sharks. They live in Anytown, and any time they meet, they rumble. And dance a bit. And when they rumble, they pull out their Butterfly Knife-Styled Pens and show off their tricks. Why? Because this pen can flip and spin and write and it’s just plain awesome. And, as you know, the pen is mightier than the sword.

What the above illustrates is just how mind-blowing this Butterfly Knife-Styled Pen really is. You can do all sorts of crazy tricks with it, and unlike a real butterfly knife, you can’t cut yourself as you learn! And butterfly knives can’t write anything, but this pen can. But enough blabbing – watch the video, imagine it’s you, and think of how everyone will idolize you and your pen flinging skills. It’s all about the skillz, people; the ess-kay-eye-ell-ell-zoyeah!

Butterfly Knife-Styled Pen

  • This pen opens and closes like a butterfly knife, so (with practice) you’ll learn sophisticated moves, two-handed tricks, quick-flips, spins, aerials, and how to manipulate combinations of these tricks.
  • Features:
    • Constructed from three pieces of close-tolerance polymer.
    • Positioning dynamics allow you to swing and rotate the pen, changing its speed and center of gravity while flipping and twirling.
    • Refined symmetry with even weight ratio (end-to-end and side-to-side) balances the pen through motion and force.
  • Includes: One black pen (blue ink)
  • Dimensions: 4.5″ closed; 7.75″ open

Designed by Ryan Correll, here’s an espresso machine that utilizes a new espresso pod delivery system, all this to prepare a hot cup of coffee whenever you want. Unique traits like button functionality, quick and easy clean-up to allow the user to continue with the hectic lifestyle without asking for a pause to get a cup of coffee are what speak for the distinctiveness of this smart coffee maker with a Z-shaped design adding to its versatility.

While most of us are delighted by the idea of bringing the outdoors in, we are equally excited by the concept of bringing the indoors outside! These “lawnge chairs” get the job done. Designed by artist Lisette Spee in collaboration with architect Tim Van Den Burg, the playful seats are part of a series of lounge chairs created for public spaces in Valkenberg Park in Breda, Netherlands.

Even though we think these chairs, which are made from metal and covered in artificial grass are fun to look at and sit in, we wish they incorporated more natural elements. After all there are several comfy designs for literal lawn chairs out there that incorporate natural, living materials. That said, we love that Lisette and Tim’s chairs appear to be seamless extensions of the green grass beneath. The great outdoors is a great place hang in the summer heat, and this interactive art installation brings a bit of culture to a lazy afternoon.

Clock That Runs On Waterhttp://gizmoave.com/2009/07/16/clock-that-runs-on-water/ http://gizmoave.com/2009/07/16/clock-that-runs-on-water/#comments Thu, 16 Jul 2009 17:26:26 +0000 Salman Khan http://gizmoave.com/?p=2422 bedol water powered clock Bedol Clock Runs on Water
It’s an eco-friendly clock from Bedol that runs entirely on water. Just fill the tank with water, add a splash of lemon juice and the clock runs for 6-8 weeks with no electricity needed. It has a built in memory chip so you don’t lose the time while changing the water.

Why can’t this technological voodoo be used for something much larger- like a car? I want a car that runs on water and touch of lemon juice. Then if I ever broke down in the middle of nowhere, I could drink the lemon water out of the gas tank and survive. Of course I would tell everyone I was drinking my own pee like Bear Grylls, natch.

Yummy Looking Gummy Bears – NOThttp://gizmoave.com/2009/07/15/yummy-looking-gummy-bears-not/ http://gizmoave.com/2009/07/15/yummy-looking-gummy-bears-not/#comments Wed, 15 Jul 2009 20:09:12 +0000 Salman Khan http://gizmoave.com/?p=2418 gummi-lamps.jpg

GummiLights are expensive rubber lamps designed to look like Gummi Bears. Unsurprisingly, I tried to eat one. Shocked? I was. I’ll be here all week folks, make sure to tip your waitstaff.

These GummiLights are made of a translucent rubber and measure in at 7-inches tall. They’re illuminated by brightly glowing LEDs and come in a variety of candy-like colors, including red, orange, yellow, clear, blue, purple and pink. Each one is powered by rechargeable lithium batteries, and can run for about 20 hours on a charge.

A single bear will set you back $125 or you can get a set of 5 for $500.

Magic Box USBhttp://gizmoave.com/2009/07/13/magic-box-usb/ http://gizmoave.com/2009/07/13/magic-box-usb/#comments Mon, 13 Jul 2009 22:47:27 +0000 Salman Khan http://gizmoave.com/?p=2414

Vintage USB drive. (Credit: Bertrand Planes) If you’ve a thing for nostalgia, this antique music box has a pretty modern spin–a USB drive. What we couldn’t figure out was whether this Music Box USB is capable of producing any tinkles, digital or otherwise, or if it’s just a husk. All that the literature onsite says is it’s an iron music box modified into a USB drive. Designer Bertrand Planes has also attempted to add more functionality by imbuing the top lever with the scroll wheel properties of a mouse. Not a very ergonomic choice, which may account for only five of these music boxes being released as limited-edition collectibles. For all else, such as storage capacity and price, you’ll have to buzz Mr Planes since it’s only on request.
