Sony’s Cyber-shot line of cameras have always been an excellent option for anyone who uses a camera casually — you know, like taking pictures at parties or on family trips. Now, the electronics giant is teaching its long-running digital camera line a new trick with the Cyber-shot TX5, which boasts the ability to go underwater with you.

You won’t want to take it too deep as it’s only rated for a depth of three meters, though that should be enough for most pools or some fun at the beach. Other than that the TX5 operates as you’d expect, with a 10.2 megapixel sensor, 45 MB of onboard storage and the ability to shoot panoramas and HD video.

Look for the TX5 in March.

U-Turn Digital Camerahttp://gizmoave.com/2009/03/04/uturn-camera/ http://gizmoave.com/2009/03/04/uturn-camera/#comments Wed, 04 Mar 2009 14:40:03 +0000 Salman Khan http://gizmoave.com/?p=2167 http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/wp-content/uploads/uturn.jpg

Considering that everyone has a digital camera these days, it is simply a matter of time before little kids start to want one. I know my children, who are ages six and under, want to play with our digital camera, but would you give a kid that young a digital camera? I don’t think so.

Fortunately, Digital Blue has one way of satisfying the curiosity of a little child with the U-Turn Digital Camera made for the little hands. The U-Turn has a 2.4 inch LCD screen that swivels so that the kids can take pictures of themselves. Hopefully, it is durable enough for the little ones’ rough lifestyle.

There is enough built-in memory on the U-Turn for about eighty digital photos, but it doesn’t look like they can be downloaded to a PC or laptop. Digital Blue’s press release on this product does not say whether it comes with a USB to mini-USB cord and appropriate ports for linking up.

Another feature is the “morphing” button feature that allows the user to morph an image with fun effects like the sketchy head, swirls, and squatty view.

The Digital Blue U-Turn digital camera is expected to be out in the Spring, for a price of about $49.99.

Sony Digital Camera With Internethttp://gizmoave.com/2009/01/08/sony-cybershot-internet/ http://gizmoave.com/2009/01/08/sony-cybershot-internet/#comments Fri, 09 Jan 2009 00:07:39 +0000 Salman Khan http://gizmoave.com/?p=2044 Sony CyberShot DSC-G3, a Camera with a Web Browser

Sony just launched its DSC-G3, the first WIFI digital camera that we’ve seen with a web browser. The goal is to up upload photos to the web quickly, and that’s a WIFI thing, really. The first good news is that the Sony G3 can connect to secure and public WIFI hotspots, including hotels and airports. These have been known to be a pain on some portable devices. The second highlight is that customers will have a free WI-FI connection with AT&T (USA) . Sony did a similar deal for the Mylo 2, and it’s certainly a good thing.

Thanks to the browser, there’s no need for a special service or API. Users just go to the website as they would do on a computer. The downside is that it is likely a bit more complicated and time consuming than having a specialized service, like Eye-Fi

Quick Specs

  • 4X Optical Zoom, Carl Zeiss lens
  • 10 Megapixel
  • 4GB internal memory
  • 3.5” display (0.9 Megapixel)
  • $500 now at Sonystyle.com

The DSC-G3 also comes with a lot of smartness found in recent digicam: smile detection and so on. We’ll let you browse the product page to see those, as they are fairly boring.

Flipping is back, with cameras at leasthttp://gizmoave.com/2008/11/06/flipbac/ http://gizmoave.com/2008/11/06/flipbac/#comments Fri, 07 Nov 2008 03:52:50 +0000 admin http://gizmoave.com/?p=1075

Sometimes there’s nothing quite like an extremely low-angle shot. Most camcorders and some digital cameras make it easy with displays that move around to odd angles, but if yours doesn’t have such niceties, the Flipbac angle viewfinder is here to help. It’s a simple mirror that attaches to your point-and-shoot or digital SLR with live view, letting you take pictures from ground-level, waist level or high over your head, and still see what the heck you’re shooting.

The $20 attachment is made for 3-inch viewscreens (a 2.5-incher is on the way), and has dual hinges to let you use it in either portrait or landscape angles. It’s nice and thin, and is available in black or silver to match your camera. And, when you close it up, it protects that viewscreen from getting scratched when you cram that camera into a tightly packed bag. Great idea.
