Man look how fast our screens shifted towards multitouch displays. The HP EliteBook 2730p was a tough little convertible tablet, and its successor— HP’s EliteBook 2740p—is no exception. The 2740p meets the same rugged MIL-STD 810G military standards, and adds a capacitive touch screen and Core i5/i7 goodness.

The 12.1-inch WXGA (1280 x 800) LED display includes anti-glare and optional outdoor view, and can be operated with a pen, your finger, the keyboard, or some combination thereof. Under the hood, you’ve got your choice of Core i7 or Core i5 processors, but there’s sadly no discrete graphics option.

You’ll get up to five hours out of the standard six-cell battery, but can add on an HP 2700 ultra-slim battery for an additional six hours (listed). And the standard set-up weighs under four pounds—not bad for a tough guy convertible tablet. The HP EliteBook 2740p will be available in the US in April, starting at $1600.

HP’s in the small game too – HP Mini 1000http://gizmoave.com/2008/11/06/hp-mini-1000/ http://gizmoave.com/2008/11/06/hp-mini-1000/#comments Fri, 07 Nov 2008 01:10:54 +0000 admin http://gizmoave.com/?p=1050

Following on from its release of the education focused Mini-Note PC earlier this year, and adding to the burgeoning list of netbook offerings now on the shelves, HP’s new HP Mini 1000 manages to retain an (almost) full size laptop keyboard in a unit that’s less than 1-inch thick and weighs only 2.25 lb.
via GizMag

The 10.3 in (L) x 6.56 in (W) x 0.99 in (H) Mini 1000 is powered by an Intel Atom N270 1.6-gigahertz (GHz) processor and is available with either a 8.9″ or 10.2″ widescreen display (1,024 x 600). System memory is either 512MB or 1GB DDR2 and HDD options include 8GB or 16GB SSD, or a 60GB HDD. There’s also an option to boost storage by up to 8GB with a HP Mini Mobile Drive accessory which is housed within the unit.

A built-in webcam and microphone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microphone , Wi-Fi, two USB ports and an Ethernet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet jack are standard, Bluetooth is optional and the Mini 1000 ships with Microsoft XP Home http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP . Versions with 3G capabilities are expected in December. A useful bit of kit for the starting price of USD$399.99.

The expanded HP Mini PC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_form_factor portfolio will be joined by a Vivienne Tam Edition which replaces the standard models’ piano black/swirl imprint finish with a vibrant red design based on the fashion designer’s Spring 2009 collection. A MIE (Mobile Internet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Internet Experience) model that runs the Linux operating system is also close to release.

Voodoo Envy 133http://gizmoave.com/2008/09/09/voodoo-envy-133/ http://gizmoave.com/2008/09/09/voodoo-envy-133/#comments Tue, 09 Sep 2008 21:26:45 +0000 admin http://gizmoave.com/?p=42

Here we have super portable laptop with features that are new to the tech world. Introducing the Voodoo Envy 133! The 0.7 inch thick laptop which weighs about 3.4 pounds is a prominent threat to Mac Air. Voodoo is equipped with its IOS operating system that allows the laptop to surf the internet, use Yahoo, Google Talk, access the optical drive(yes, I said an optical drive), and even make skype calls without actually booting the system into windows or any other operating system. Integrated mobile broadband option is available with this nifty computer, an option that is absent in a lot of today’s new laptops. It is also equipped with a VGA webcam. A SSD battery is included along with what Voodoo call a powerbrick which renders the laptop to connect to an ethernet connection for a p2p wi-fi connection. Intel based and aspired on linux, this laptop is set to duel it out with Mac’s Air. Price of this baby ranges around $2100.
