Now this is interesting – a pair of iPods (presumably non-functional, of course) that has been turned into iPod speakers. The original iPods’ scroll wheels were removed as you can see above, being replaced by a pair of speakers instead. The entire DIY project cost around $100 (replacement front and back panels since the old ones had too many scratches to count plus shipping), although with a careful search done locally, the entire thing could have been completed for approximately $60. The speaker size stands at 2.25″ and needed to be dremeled a little at the back in order to fit into the iPod properly. It would be nice to see if someone could make Zune speakers for the Zune…

“The new Philippe Starck Zikmu wireless speakers for Parrot. These sleek speakers feature a docking station for an iPod or iPhone, surround sound technology and a broad range of wireless capabilities. The two speakers, which radiate sound from both sides, can be placed anywhere in a room and work without wires. The minimalist speakers are 2.5 feet tall, so are perfect for those seated on a sofa or at a desk.” Love the design but for $1,500 USD, they better sound amazing!

One minute you are bopping your head with you ear phones stuffed in your ears listening to your favorite tunes. The next you whip out carriage and transform into an emcee. Just plug your iPod onto the PA System with high-output speakers and a microphone and sing along your favorite music track or show some range on an instrumental. THe rechargeable battery of this system can last upto 6 hours. This device can also take all universal cd or mp3 players as input. The speakers are of pro quality and the dimensions of this easy to carry system are 15″x11″x18″. This is definitely something I wouldn’t mind carrying around.

Price: $300 approximately
Product name: iPod PA System with High-Output Speakers and Microphone
