I haven’t seen that many slick keyboards in my life and this looks awesome. Although I don’t know if its going to be comfortable enough. It’s becoming startlingly apparent that in the future buttons will be obsolete. Their kind are being systematically eradicated by high-brow designers worldwide, most recent being Kazuo Kawasaki at Minebea, who has created Cool Leaf. It’s basically a mirrored surface with backlit keys and a capacitive coating, creating a beautiful appearance that looks decidedly not-fun to use, particularly that keyboard (stylishly dubbed “Φ-QWERTY”). But, it is practical in some respects, thanks to the whole thing being waterproof and easily cleaned. So these might indeed be the keyboards of the future — for doctors and nurses, anyway.

Microsoft New BlueTrack Input Deviceshttp://gizmoave.com/2009/05/19/ms-bluetrack-new/ http://gizmoave.com/2009/05/19/ms-bluetrack-new/#comments Tue, 19 May 2009 18:31:38 +0000 Salman Khan http://gizmoave.com/?p=2249 Microsoft rolls out two BlueTrack mice and a keyboard

Microsoft just introduced three new members of its BlueTrack family of input devices, including the Wireless Mouse 5000 (pictured above left), the Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000, and the Wireless Keyboard 3000. If you missed the rollout of the Redmondians’ BlueTrack tech, it’s designed to work on any surface, including granite or glass countertops, and even carpets.

The $39.95 Wireless Mouse 5000 has an ambidextrous design, and is pretty much unremarkable. It’s also offered as part of the $69.95 Wireless Desktop 3000, which includes the straightforward yet matching Wireless Keyboard 3000 ($39.95). The two are paired with a PC or Mac using Microsoft’s 2.4GHz wireless connectivity, hooked up with the plug-and-play mini transceiver that we’ve found to be an effort-free connection routine.

The star of this rodent show is the $49.95 Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000, which includes what Microsoft calls its first nano transceiver, just .3 inches slim, barely showing itself as it hangs out of a USB port. Similar to the clever USB dongle included with Microsoft’s Arc Mouse (which we find to be a delight every time we use it), this tiny transceiver nestles itself inside the mouse for easy carrying. All these new input devices will be available next month.

Asus New HTPC Keyboardhttp://gizmoave.com/2009/01/12/asus-new-htpc-keyboard/ http://gizmoave.com/2009/01/12/asus-new-htpc-keyboard/#comments Mon, 12 Jan 2009 19:54:12 +0000 Salman Khan http://gizmoave.com/?p=2063 Asus HTPC Keyboard

Asus has certainly come a long way as a company in terms of its product line up since its early days, and their booth at the recently concluded CES was certainly a show stopper with tons of concepts and new devices to check out. Among them was the Asus HTPC keyboard concept that features the following :-

* 5″ built-in LCD display
* Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor
* 1GB RAM
* 16/32GB SSD
* Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
* Wireless HDMI (w00t!)
* Two USB 2.0 ports
* VGA, HDMI and audio in/out

This nifty little device is powered by Windows XP Home, and strangely enough, it lacks a TV tuner. Asus’ CEO claims that this will be out sometime between 3 to 6 months from now for a yet undisclosed price. How much are you willing to fork out for this?
